Holy land of Buddhists¡ª¡ªMt.Jiuhua
Mt.
Jiuhua, one of the four famous sacred mountains for Buddhist
in China, is only 220 kilometers south of Hefei, the capital
of Anhui province. Formerly named Jiuzi, Mt. Jiuhua is known
as a Land of Buddhism and lotus flowers in history. As a
national key scenic spot, it covers an area of 174 square
kilometers, with 99 mountain peaks, and the main peak being
1,342 meters above sea level. At present, there are 90
Buddhist temples and over 600 monks and nuns in the mountain.
The Buddhas worshipped here actually existed in history and
the mummies of the dead monks come from those who used to live
in the mountain. Mt. Jiuhua is also a mountain of cultural and
historical significance. Celebrities and persons of refined
tastes of the past ages have left behind them more than 500
pieces of poetic and prose works and over 20 ruined sites of
studies and academies of classical learning. More than 2,000
cultural relics have been preserved to this day in Mt. Jiuhua.
It is an ideal place for sightseeing and cultivation.
