Chaohu
Lake
Lying in the southeastern suburbs of Hefei, the Chaohu
is one of the five greatest freshwater lakes in China,
covering an area of 782 square kilometers. It is a famous
tourist attraction in mid Anhui province. With white sails
dotting the vast expanse of mist-covered waters, the lake
looks like a huge brilliant pearl set in between the
Changjiang and Huaihe Rivers. In the middle of lake, there are
two islands named Gushan Hill and Mushan Hill respectively. On
all sides of the lake, there are many scenic spots such as the
five limestone caves---the Xianren, Ziwei, Wangqiao, Huayang
and Boshan as well as the three hot springs---the Bantang,
Xiangquan and Tangchi, and five state-level forest parks---the
Taihu, Jilong, Yefu, Tianjing, and Zipeng mountains. These
natural spectacles dot the lakeside areas like stars crowding
round the moon, which constitutes a three-dimensional
exquisite painting of mountains and waters.
